J. Cole Producing Songs on New TLC Album

Roc Nation star vows to give duo his "best material."

J. Cole, TLC
J. Cole's work with TLC is going to extend past their "Crooked Smile" collaboration. The North Carolina rapper is producing songs on the duo's upcoming album. Cole shared details about the project with Billboard.com during the iHeart Radio Music Festival Friday (Sept. 20).
Cole brought members Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins and Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas out to perform "Crooked Smile" for the first time live. "Finally we made that happened," he said. "We couldn't have picked a better place [than the iHeart Music Festival] to do it at. It's so huge, this was perfect for them to come out and do that song."
Adding the R&B icons to his sophomore album, Born Sinner, was a must. "I was such a fan of theirs growing up. I still am," Cole explained. "It's like when I made 'Crooked Smile,' I instantly thought of them because not only did I miss their voice, but they had these huge positive  records, like 'Unpretty' and 'Waterfalls,' and I was just like 'Man, it makes too much sense. I gotta have them on a song like 'Crooked Smile.'"
If all goes according to plan, he'll return the favor with their new project. "Hopefully depending on how these songs turn out I got some production on the album that they're doing," he continued. "What we're really planning on doing is to really go in and lock in, because as a producer I know what I can give them. I know what I can bring them, and I know what they need. They don't need me, but I'll give them my best material."
Aside from building his production credits the 28-year-old is busy promoting Born Sinner and recently launched his nationwide What Dreams May Come Tour, inspired by the Robin Williams film about a man's journey through the afterlife. "Born Sinner was based on that movie conceptually, because if you listen to the album it's literally like…you['re] starting off in hell and trying to make it to heaven. The tour is the same way."
The tour wraps domestically Nov. 2 at an undisclosed location, which may or may not be New York City. "Contractually I can't announce anything," he said of why he hasn't etched out room for the Big Apple, but assured that a date is on the way. "There's certain places you just gotta go... New York is one of those ones we definitely gonna come see, I just can't announce anything for like a few weeks."
Cole begins the European leg of What Dreams May Come Nov. 24 in Paris.

Khloe Kardashian, Lamar Odom Split "Will Be Soon"

It's only a matter of time now. Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom have been estranged for weeks now, and sources say it's more a question of when, rather than if, the couple will announce a formal split. As revealed in the Sept. 30 issue of Us Weekly, the spouses of nearly four years no longer speak and are basically living separate lives at this point.

"Her assistants packed up Lamar's clothes and dropped them off at his loft," a source tells Us of Kardashian, 29, who booted Odom, 33, from their $4 million mansion two weeks ago.
Adds another pal: "She'll be the one who ends things, and it will be soon."

7 Crazy Facts About The $75 Million Mansion Calvin Klein Is Building In The Hamptons

7 Crazy Facts About The $75 Million Mansion

Calvin Klein Is Building In The Hamptons

After five years of construction, designer Calvin Klein's minimalist mansion in Southampton, NY is nearly complete.
The home, on a 10-acre oceanfront lot on Meadow Lane, cost some $75 million to build, including the price of the land.
The New York Times Jacob Bernstein delved into the property in this weekend's Sunday Styles section. The entire piece is worth a read, but here are some of the juiciest tidbits about the house, which has been the talk of the Hamptons all summer:
  • Klein gut-renovated the original home on the property, then tore it down entirely and began building from scratch.
  • Before starting construction, the designer built a life-sized mock-up of the project out of plywood, costing an estimated $350,000.
  • He's been through three different architects in five years.
  • Klein is extremely hands-on. "As [friends] tell it, he is here six days a week, sometimes for several hours at a time. He talks about the house nonstop," Bernstein writes. "He has personally vetted and approved every floorboard and object inside, even designed much of the furniture himself when he thought there was nothing out there that quite met his exacting design standards."
  • He gets frequent construction photos and updates from his friend Aby Rosen, the well-known real estate developer who lives next door.
  • Klein designed every room with sliding glass doors "so that anywhere he is can essentially become an outdoor space."
  • The guest wing connects to the main home via an underground passageway. And another nearby building will be used as a screening room.

Nelson Mandela reportedly in a "permanent vegetative state"

Updated at 2:52 p.m. ET
Doctors treating former South African President Nelson Mandela say the anti-apartheid leader is in a "permanent vegetative state," according to documents obtained by Agence France-Presse.

The documents, dated June 26, say Mandela's breathing is being mechanically assisted and the Mandela family has "been advised by the medical practitioners that his life support machine should be switched off" due to the "perilous" state of his health. The person whose name appears at the end of the documents, D.A. Smith, wrote that the information came from "my instructing attorney" and not directly from the Mandela family.
"Rather than prolonging his suffering, the Mandela family is exploring this option as a very real probability," the documents say.
CBS News has previously reported that Mandela has been on life support for some time during his nearly four-week hospitalization and that his family members haven't been able to come to an agreement on how much medical intervention to provide the 94-year-old global icon.
A spokesman for South African President Jacob Zuma denied the AFP report to The Wall Street Journal. "There clearly is not a vegetative state," spokesman Mac Maharaj said, according to the paper. He also said the recommendation of disconnecting Mandela from life support "hasn't come up at all."

The papers, obtained by the wire service Thursday, were part of a legal filing related to a family dispute over the burial of three of Mandela's deceased children.

Mandela has been hospitalized since June 8 for a recurring lung infection. Since then, South African authorities and Mandela's family have been providing the public with limited but grim news about his ailing health. Zuma most recently said he was in critical but stable condition.
His wife, Graca Machel, said at a fundraising drive in honor of her husband that he is sometimes uncomfortable but seldom feels pain.
"Whatever is the outcome of his stay in hospital, that will remain the second time where he offered his nation an opportunity to be united under the banner of our flag, under the banner of our constitution," she said.
The bitter family feud about the former South African president's children concluded with a ceremony on Thursday. Remains of the three deceased children were reburied at their original resting site a day after a court ordered their return and two years after a Mandela grandson had moved the bodies.
Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years during white racist rule and was freed in 1990 before being elected president in all-race elections. He won the Nobel Peace Prize along with former President F.W. de Klerk.
