Playlist: 10 tracks you need to hear

Britney Spears: 'Perfume' (out now in the US)
It's not often that we get a ballad from Britney Spears; so when she does decide to put one out, the expectation is going to be high - especially when hitmaker Sia is at the helm. But after the endless teasing from its producers and the woman herself, we're pleased to report that 'Perfume' lives up to the hype; although it'll take a few listens to sink in.

Aiden: 'Satisfy Me' ('Aiden' EP out on November 26)
The former X Factor contestant returns sans surname and with a brand new image ahead of his new EP release later this month. Co-helmed by Dimitri Tikovoi (Charli XCX, Mikky Ekko), 'Satisfy Me' feels like a natural progression from the slick (and occasionally wobbly) pop of his debut album to a synth-driven sound that's surprisingly slick.

Lady Gaga: 'Dope' (out now)
Her new album ARTPOP may have leaked online ahead of its release, but Gaga has pressed on with her latest buzz single 'Dope'; an emotional ballad about a tricky break-up told over weighty piano thuds and bobbing synths.

A Great Big World ft. Christina Aguilera: 'Say Something' (out now in the US)
What Christina Aguilera wants, Christina Aguilera gets. After falling in love with A Great Big World's emotional piano ballad 'Say Something', the singer insisted that she jumped on the track. The result is one of her most understated outings in recent memory, and it's all the better for it.

Katy B: 'I Like You' (out now)
For the B-side of her new single '5am', Katy B returns to her Peckham roots on 'I Like You'. Produced by Berlin garage DJ George FitzGerald, the track hear's Katy's vocal effortlessly bounce off late-night house thumps and a hypnotic chorus.

Demi Lovato: 'Let It Go' (out now in the US, Frozen out December 6)
The singer has recorded a track for Disney's new film Frozen which, unsurprisingly, is a ballsy, fists-in-the-air anthem about finding the strength to go it alone.

Joel Compass ft. Pusha T: 'Run' (out now
We wrote about how much we enjoyed 20-year-old Londoner Joel Compass and his alt-R&B song 'Run' only a few weeks ago. And given that US rapper Pusha T has since recorded a guest skit for it, we're guessing we're not the only ones.

Disclosure: 'Apollo' (out now)
They may have missed out on last week's Mercury Prize, but Disclosure continue to push forward with the unveiling of spacious house track 'Apollo', which they told us they've put out "purely for the fun of it" and not ahead of a re-release of their debut album Settle

James Vincent McMorrow: 'Cavalier' (out now)
The rising Irish singer recently sent hype machines into overdrive with his latest effort, which marks a shift into new sonic territory from his 2011 debut. His second LP Post Tropical follows in January next year.

Chromatone: 'Flyin'' (out now)
He's been producing electronic music for over a decade, but Chromatone could well crack the top 40 charts with 'Flyin'', which blends squelchy beats with highly addictive pop hooks.
